I want to highlight the good that is happening in Tijuana. There is still a strong misconception that Tijuana is a dangerous place. Its such old news and so not true these days. The city has grown so much. The new Tijuana is filled with creative Baja-med restaurants, art filled streets and pasajes, craft breweries and wines from Baja wineries, local coffee shops to vegan street food. And normal people, doing normal things, just like everywhere else.
I tell people a couple things when discussing safety in Tijuana. First off if you are seeking drugs and the red light district then you are putting yourself in danger. If you seek out good, you are completely fine. Second, just like any other major city, there are bad neighborhoods. Stay away from bad neighborhoods.
One last thought on safety is how glorified news is. Any form of violence in Tijuana is glorified in San Diego (and everywhere else). I think this contributes to misconception about the city. Just read your local news, this stuff is going on everywhere.
I have spent a lot of time in Tijuana in the last three years. All I have had are great experiences. I have not had ONE bad experience with people, the law or anything else.
This is why I want to highlight the good. This Friday starts a 10 day book fair! The fair will be at the museum - The CECUT, and will be highlighted with Jazz concerts and book presentations.
